The Rifton Support Station was designed to improve the quality of life for so many individuals with disabilities. The Rifton Support Station provides:
Increased self-esteem for individuals that need assistance with hygiene care

More time to focus on other life skills because hygiene care time is so much quicker
Increased safety for individuals and their caregivers
Until now, most hygienic care needed to happen in a horizontal position for individuals that need assistance. The chance to be upright gives these individuals the more opportunity to assist with their care, increasing their self-esteem. What an emotional benefit! Francie was the first to use the Support Station. Now she comes into the ladies’ room, transfers out of her wheelchair and stands independently using the Support Station. The Rifton Support Station can be used in two configurations: FIXED DESIGN or PIVOT DESIGN. Most individuals will start with the Fixed Design. With the Fixed design, you can use the optional Kneeboard to provide more stabilization for the user’s legs. The Pivot Design allows the individual to transfer from a wheelchair directly to the toilet. With this design, the user needs to have moderate lower body movement control and strength.

With hygienic care provided in the upright position, less time is spent on it. This means individuals and caregivers have more time to work on other independence skills, more time in the classroom, and more time to enjoy life. The upright position also helps to prevent injuries to staff by eliminating the need to lift the patient onto a horizontal surface: "…elimination of physical injury and back-strain due to lifting, decreased fatigue and stress, and so much time saved.
