When looking at tire options for special needs strollers, bikes and trikes, consider the size and construction of the tires that come standard with the device. Also consider where the equipment will be used most often. Will the equipment be used indoors or outdoors? And is the terrain smooth like many indoor surfaces or rough like many outdoor surfaces?

Solid tires are indicated when the primary usage is on smooth terrain and low maintenance is preferred. Pneumatic, or air-filled, tires are indicated when the primary usage is on rougher terrain. Like a bicycle tire, pneumatic tires require maintenance to maintain proper air pressure in them. In addition, pneumatic tires are more prone to punctures from hazards.
