Triaid Special Needs Tricycle - Tri-Lo Handcycle
The Triaid Tri-Lo Series of Hand Propelled Tricycles is designed specifically for riders who have limited use of their legs and find it difficult to pedal a tricycle with their feet. People with spina bifida or spastic diplegia may fall into this category along with others. This tricycle provides a unique form of independent mobility for individuals who have limited ability to walk. It’s also a fun way to improve the strength and endurance of core muscles and arm muscles for anyone. Even those who use manual wheelchairs for mobility will find this way of pedaling and steering lots of fun!
The Tri-Lo Handcycle is available in 3 sizes, accommodating young children during their first cycling experience through teenagers and adults of shorter stature. The durable folding frame is equipped with adjustments to ensure optimal positioning for propelling and steering. Adjustments also accommodate growth. The drive unit is easy to get started and easy to use. The Mini and Standard Tri-Lo have an easy-to-pedal single gear system. The Large Tri-Lo has a 5-speed gear system. Steering and braking are controlled through the hand cranks. The broad padded seat and backrest ensure comfort and postural support. A standard pelvic strap helps the rider to maintain a well aligned position on the seat and ensures safety. The independent footplates with straps can adjust in height, angle and width for support and comfort. Locking parking brakes are fitted to both rear wheels to keep the cycle stationary during transfers.
In Step 1, choose the size and color of your handcycle. Triaid Tri-Lo Handcycle Sizing Chart can be found here with more information in the Size Chart section on this page.
In Step 2, you can choose to keep the Standard Pelvic Strap—a versatile, adjustable webbed strap with a side-release buckle designed to help the rider maintain a secure position on the seat. Or you can upgrade to a Padded Dual Pull Strap—an enhanced support featuring padded covers for superior comfort. It includes quick-adjustment tabs, making it easy to secure even for riders with high muscle tone or strong extension.
Also in Step 2, you can add Lateral Pelvic Supports for riders requiring extra support to maintain a centralized position of the pelvis on the seat. Lateral Pelvic Support Pads adjust independently for width and height and are removable for easier transfers.
In Step 3, you can choose to add a Chest Support Strap to the padded seat back for additional trunk support. The chest strap provides added trunk stability, ensuring the rider remains securely upright and centered against the seat back during movement. This extra support prevents slumping and allows the rider to focus their energy on pedaling rather than maintaining balance. This strap has a Velcro fastening and can be removed for cleaning.
In Step 4, choose between keeping the standard Pneumatic Tires or upgrading to Puncture Proof Tires which never need to be inflated. Constructed from a durable foam/rubber compound, the Puncture Proof Tires are ideal for use on tricycles in schools and playgrounds. Please Note: Puncture Proof Tires are not available for the size large Tri-Lo.
Triaid Tricycles are manufactured in Scotland.
