The Rifton Activity Chair has quickly become the classroom standard for children and young adults with special positioning needs. Parents who see what this chair can do in the classroom are also purchasing one for home. Speech and feeding specialists have adopted this chair for their hospital-based clinics. The Rifton Activity Chair offers a wide variety of features and accessories accommodating people of all shapes, sizes and abilities. It is infinitely adjustable to meet every need. The Rifton Activity Chair has truly revolutionized adaptive seating, delighting therapists and caregivers alike.
The Rifton Activity Chair is offered in 3 sizes- Small, Medium and Large. The growth potential of each chair coupled with quality design and manufacturing ensures years of reliable daily use. Please refer to Size Chart for proper fitting.
All Rifton Activity Chairs have Tilt-in-Space. The Standard Rifton Activity Chair tilts (as a unit with no change in degree of hip flexion) 15 degrees forward and backward from the fully upright position. The Backrest Angle can be adjusted independently 5 degrees forward from upright to 20 degrees back from upright. When the backrest angle is adjusted in relation to the seat, the angle at the hip changes. These features combine to allow easy transitions between forward leaning for task participation and unimpeded interaction, and reclining for rest or a higher level of support.
Choosing the Spring Option- available for both the backrest and seat- allows for self-generated, dynamic motion. The spring column can be locked when not in use. The Rifton Activity Chair with Spring Option is ideal for individuals with autism and for individuals with significantly increased extensor tone that results in extensor thrusting. If Back Spring Option is chosen, it will use 10 degrees of the 20 degrees of the backrest recline angle adjustment.
You will have a Choice of Adjustable Legs- Long or Short/ With or Without Casters: Height-adjustable in 1" increments, these legs allow you to position the user at optimal height. The grippy tips of the stationary legs keep the chair from sliding and moving across the floor, even with dynamic rocking. The casters make the standard base chair easy to move when transitioning from one place to another. Caster swivel locks prevent the chair from drifting sideways when it is pushed for longer distances. Push handles must be purchased when casters are chosen. When Long Adjustable Legs are chosen, a Footboard must be purchased.
The Footboard facilitates weight-bearing through the legs and feet during functional sitting activities, and can be used with sandals or ankle straps (sold separately in accessories section) to meet specific positioning needs. The footboard can flip up or be used as a step during sit-to-stand transfers. The Footboard is adjustable in height and knee angle.
Comfortable Seat and Backrest Pads are essential for providing cushioned support and preventing pressure sores. The backrest and seat pads are made of polyurethane foam covered with a cleanable, healthcare-grade polyurethane-coated fabric. The seat pad can be turned front to back for longer wear. Pads are available in a variety of colors.
You will have a choice of Arm Supports: Armrests provide lateral boundaries as well as upper extremity weight-bearing assist to aid trunk control. Rifton’s armrests can be raised or lowered individually and can be set at angles from horizontal to 30 degrees up or down. Forearm Prompts facilitate head and trunk control while sitting, and secure forearm placement. This enables the use of the pelvic girdle and trunk core muscles for improved postural stabilization and strengthening. Rifton’s forearm prompts are fully adjustable for optimal positioning.
It's easy to see why this chair is so popular with clinicians and families. Adjustments are performed tool free. Adjustments can be made while the chair is in use. Accessories are easily placed and removed. This chair is ideal for accommodating one user’s growth and changes in functional ability and is equally as effective in multi-user environments.
